socialGmail is a fun browser enhancement for Chrome that displays your contacts’ Google profile picture or avatar beside any email they have sent.
This add-on is mainly for fun. It adds color and personality to your inbox, with the faces and pictures of your friends and family. socialGmail might also help you find emails more quickly, as you can simply pick out the picture of the sender rather than searching around for a name.
That said the overall effect of socialGmail in our test inbox was a bit messy. Only a certain number of contacts have pictures, and if socialGmail can’t find the right one, it is left blank. This means the images are hit and miss, and some people won’t like the effect it produces.
socialGmail doesn’t have any configuration options, but being a Chrome extension, it is very easy to enable and disable. It needs fairly extensive permissions in order for it to work though, and this might present a problem for some users.
Give your Gmail inbox a little more personality with socialGmail.
